Saturday Aki and Mike said we were going mountain climbing. We got up really early and drove a long time in the dark. I was tired. After awhile it got light and we got to a place where they were working on the road. They were moving rocks so the mountain doesn’t fall on the road. The mountain is really big and I don’t think they will be able to move all the rocks. We waited while they moved some rocks and then we drove some more. Then we got to a parking place but we parked somewhere else so we didn’t have to pay. We looked at the mountain and put a lot of metal things in our packs and started hiking. First we walked down a hill and then we walked up a hill. We walked a long time. Finally we got to a place that smells like marmot poop where there is some snow and rocks and had lunch. Then we climbed up a gully. It got steep and had rocks stuck in it. Mike and Aki looked at a paper and said things about a man named Fred who wrote the paper. Then we had to put our packs up on the rocks above our heads and then climb up the rocks. After we climbed the hard part we stopped and got out a rope. We took off our good shoes and put on bad shoes that made my toes hurt. Then Mike climbed up the mountain dragging the rope. Sometimes he fastened the rope to trees. Aki and I followed the rope and took it off the trees since Mike had left it fastened to them. We did this for a long time. Then we got to a cliff and Aki looked for a way to climb it. Finally he found a way and went up and put some metal things in some cracks. We followed and took them out. Then Mike took the rope up another crack. I wanted to just climb up the metal things but they said we couldn’t because it was against the rules, so I had to cram my hands and feet in the cracks and it hurt. Then Aki went up some more rocks and we followed him. Then we got to a sandy place that was like the beach except it was tipped. Then we climbed up and down some rocks and up another steep part and they said we were at the top. They said not to fall off which was kind of dumb because who would want to fall off this thing? We ate some smashed sandwiches and looked at the view which is what people do on mountains I guess. Aki and Mike looked at the view and complained that all the glaciers were melting. I guess they want the rocks to be covered with glaciers to make it harder to climb the mountain.
Anyway then we started down the mountain. Mike found an old piece of colored rope and a rock that was stuck in a crack and jammed some more rocks in and jumped on it and said it was a good anchor. So we fastened the rope to that and slid down the rope and pulled it down and did this a bunch more times, hanging the rope off more rocks and bushes and things. Then we came to a place where a man was stuck. Aki and Mike told him how to climb the mountain. I thought he should just go down but nobody asked me. Then later Mike got a metal thing stuck in a crack and said a lot of bad words. He got it out by bashing it with a rock. We slid down the rope again but then Aki and Mike said that lots of time people die by sliding down the rope so they decided to climb down instead. So we climbed down a long ways dragging the rope. Then we slid down the rope some more even though you can die doing that. Finally we got to where we left our good shoes but we couldn’t put them on because we had to climb down a different way. This way we had to slide down the rope some more so I don’t know why we went that way. Then we got to the place that smelled like marmot poop and took off the rope and got to wear our good shoes again and I was glad because by now my feet really hurt. We hiked back down to the car and sorted out the metal things. Then we drove a long ways to a restaurant. Aki and Mike said driving melts the glaciers so I don’t know why they do it so much. They also said climbing was really healthy but then they bought a bunch of French fries and Pepsi and things at the restaurant. Then we drove some more to finish melting the glaciers I guess. Then we got home and I was tired and went to bed. The next day I wanted to go climb another mountain, but Mike said he had to work so that he could buy more of the metal things.
