Report
This was unplanned hike because weather, blue sky, cold. Good reason to call sick. Day before called ranger on mt.baker to check condition(I had first plan to go on Baker).Report was "was raining on 7000-8000 feet elevation last night...no fresh report for trails”. So I decide go to Rainier and pack crampons to. Friend was calling and asking "do we taking skis with us" No I said. Because of the report and weather. But next night was snowing and Muir snowfield get 4-5 inch above Pueblo Creek. When we get there  at 8pm on parking lot we saw 4-5 people with skis. I was thinking will be no fun for them because ice.
First portion of trail was hiking and no snow until Panorama point and Pueblo Creek.
After was fresh snow on ice and we put ours crampons on. I was disappointed because did not bring skis (mistake). But we hike to Muir for 5 h. Upper was sunny but cold.20F.We saw about 25 people with skis and 4-5 people with no skis.
For me as pro ski instructor this mistake was big mistake, but I was thinking. .OK this is just start of this season.
I was skiing from Muir 5 times and only twice, was excellent condition like today. We will be back to fix this.
