Andy Iles, Chris Erickson and myself made plans to climb the upper Exum ridge on the Grand Teton. This past week we hit the road to make it happen. Also returned via the City of Rocks, Idaho (C.O.R).
The Grand Teton, 13,770 ft.
With all our glaciers, its hard to imagine climbing nothing but rock to that altitude. Believe it, and its fantastic rock and fun climbing. Afternoon thunderstorms are the reason for an alpine start in the Tetons. Expect traffic jams on route at times. There are multiple options for most sections of the climb however, so just pick a line and go. Be aware, the approach involves boulder fields and talus and scrambling with route finding problems. If you like rock climbing and a major alpine objective, I highly recommend this one.
City of Rocks, Idaho
What can I say, beautiful granite, great trad climbing, or as Chris named it, "sport trad". I highly recommend a trip there. Beware the drive, plan to spend a few days to make it worth the drive.
Chris said he would put together a trip report, so I am keeping this short.
