After having spent a quiet night at the cabin after Saturday’s work party, I decided on the PCT as my trail for Sunday. A girl can only wash so many windows or bust up old wooden ladders when Hooper isn’t looking, before she has to get out and play. Having established that Toby & Kathy were safely back from their ascent of Mt. Thompson on Saturday (and in fact at that moment dining at the Summit Inn, refueling themselves after their unplanned bivouac), I headed up the trail northbound. (Looking forward to that trip report Tobster - just be sure Kathy gets to edit it first.) I hooked up with an Austrian fellow here on business and we had a fascinating conversation about the state of the German pension system and the unification of Germany. This made the miles go much quicker, and as long as I could keep him talking I could just barely keep up with him. At the top of the ridge, we parted company and I sat down to tend to my feet. I soon headed up to the Catwalk, but ended up stopping just shy of it in favor of lunch in the shade. Not wanting to have to run down the trail like I did the week before or be late for a family dinner (free food at Mom’s!) I stuck to my turnaround time. I ran into Mark Iverson and had a pleasant chat, managing to recruit him to help with next year’s BC class in the process. Lots of familiar faces on this trail, and the usual number of people in sandals and T-shirts several miles in, all having a good time. Heard several reports of how steep the snow was covering portions of the trail past the Catwalk. Nothing of note to report on this trip, other than the wildflowers were better on Granite Peak.
