Wilderness First Aid Class

A Mountain Oriented First Aid  (MOFA) Class is offered every fall at Guye Cabin.

Mountaineering First Aid (MOFA) is a 24-hour first aid course for the wilderness traveler.

 

Usually the second weekend in November each year

 

Registration opens in September 2010

This is an accelerated course and students will be expected to do significant study and pass a course pre-test prior to the course start. The Mountaineering First Aid book, American Red Cross text book will be distrtibuted two weeks prior to the class. A pre-test will be emailed to the students with time to study and complete prior to the Guye Cabin Weekend.

This course will held at Guye Cabin and begin at 7:00 PM on Friday evening and continue through Sunday evening approximately 5:00 PM. Be prepared for fall unpredictable weather, as a good portion of the class will be held outdoors, come rain, snow, or shine. You'll need to bring snacks and meals for the entire weekend, and coordinate feeding the instructors.

Course Attendance

Participation is required at all class sessions. The class involves hands-on, interactive learning. Wear casual clothes suitable for working on the ground and outdoors.

 

Arrangements cannot be made to make up class sessions. Please do not register for a class unless you can commit to attend all class sessions.

 

Registration

Registration is open now and closes when all spaces are allotted, or on October 10. The class will fill very quickly. Priority is given to those who commit to taking the Instructor Course.

If a course is full, a few people may be placed on a wait list. Email Mike.

 

Cancellation Policy

In order to receive a refund for a MOFA Course, the cancellation must be made by the last day of registration. There are no refunds for no-shows or drop-outs. No partial refunds will be given.

 

Eligibility

You must be member of the Washington Alpine Club to take any WAC offered classes. To take advantage of all this great Club has to offer just Apply now...

The WAC will also make spaces available to other Outdoor Clubs including our friends the Mountaineers, Boalps, and WSTC.

MOFA Refresher Course
MOFA cards are valid for three years from the date of course completion. If you have a valid card and wish to update your skills and knowledge, you may enroll in a MOFA refresher.

MOFA refresher course are one day events that are offered by the Mountaineers branches in Seattle, Tacoma, and Everett.

The
Seattle and Tacoma, branches offered their courses in the Spring, however the Everett branch has theirs available in the fall. Registration is now. They require MOFA within the last three years and current CPR.

Spring MOFA Instructor Course 

 

To everyone MOFA certified we hope you will take the next step to the next level and become certified to teach MOFA to others. 
 
Dates and times:
Beginning March 28 for two full weekends
 
The course includes Fundamentals of Instructor Training; American Red Cross CPR/AED and First Aid skills certification and MOFA skills testing; and the ARC/MOFA Instructor Course. The course tuition of $90.00 will be reimbursed after you teach your first course for the WAC.

CPR 

 

The WAC recommends both infant/child and Adult CPR for all its members!

 

We participate in the Seattle Red Cross CPR Saturday each May. http://www.seattleredcross.org/ 

 

The Seattle Fire Department's Medic II Program provides free Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) classes to the general public.

 

Seattle firefighters, as well as others from fire departments throughout King County, serve as instructors for Medic II. Classes are held in convenient locations throughout the region and are available free of charge.

 

The program offers a three hour adult CPR class, a one-and-a-half hour refresher course and a four-hour infant/child CPR class, which also focuses on injury prevention and safety for children. Please call 206-684-7274 to register and for more information on class dates, times, and locations.

 

Adult CPR Certification

Seattle Fire Department has FREE CPR classes that are frequently scheduled around the city.  They teach both child/infant and adult classes for FREE.  To find one that is convenient for you, call (206) 684-7274.

The Bellevue Fire Department teaches both child/infant and adult American Heart Association CPR classes.  These are regularly scheduled and cost $25 for each class.  The classes are held at the Bellevue Public Safety Training Center (1838 ­ 116th Avenue NE, Bellevue) from 7 to 10 pm.  The schedule will be posted here when I receive it.  You can currently call (425) 452-6885 to find out when a class convenient for you is being taught.

 

The Red Cross offers CPR and other classes.
